Summary

Wyoming Game Warden Joe Pickett investigates a mysterious death at a secret remote high-tech facility in this riveting new novel from #1 New York Times bestseller C。J。 Box。

When a prominent University of Wyoming professor goes missing, authorities are stumped。 That is, until Joe Pickett makes two surprising discoveries while hunting down a wounded elk on his district as an epic spring storm descends upon him。

First, Joe finds the professor's vehicle parked on a remote mountainside。 Then he finds the professor's frozen and mutilated body。 When he attempts to learn more, his investigation is obstructed by Federal agents, extreme environmentalists, and Governor Colter Allen。

Meanwhile, Joe's associate Nate Romanowski is rebuilding his falconry company, financing this through crypto mining。 Nate is then approached by a shadowy group of local militant activists who are gaining in power and influence, and demanding that Wyoming join other western states and secede from the union – by force, if necessary。 They ask Nate to throw in his lot with them, but he's wary。 Should he trust them, or is he being set up?

As a storm of peril gathers around them, Joe and Nate confront it in different ways – and maybe, for the first time, on opposite sides。

Definitely one of the top three Picket novels thus far if not THE best。 Storm Watch is absolutely classic Box。 Pickett's penchant for poking the bear is at an all time high。 The gang is all here including Marybeth, Sheridan, April, Lucy, Missy, Nate and Liv, Geronimo and Jancinda, and last but not least, Gov。 Rulon。 What more could you want? “Storm Watch” is the latest entry in the “Joe Pickett” series of mysteries by the prolific author C。J。 Box。 Since I have previously read several books in the series it stands to reason that (1) I very much enjoy this series and (2) I will give “Storm Watch” a positive review。 “Storm Watch” does not disappoint although it is not my favorite entry in the series。 Box continues to stretch both his protagonist Joe Pickett as well as the universe Joe inhabits。 This time around Joe the game warden ends “Storm Watch” is the latest entry in the “Joe Pickett” series of mysteries by the prolific author C。J。 Box。 Since I have previously read several books in the series it stands to reason that (1) I very much enjoy this series and (2) I will give “Storm Watch” a positive review。 “Storm Watch” does not disappoint although it is not my favorite entry in the series。 Box continues to stretch both his protagonist Joe Pickett as well as the universe Joe inhabits。 This time around Joe the game warden ends up in the middle of big game poachers, legal ( and perhaps not so legal) Bitcoin entrepreneurs, and not one but two Governors of the great state of Wyoming。 Of course, there may be some murder and mayhem out there in the mountains。 Perhaps we can throw in not one but two epic blizzards! So this is yet another fun read。 And I was very fortunate to read “Storm Watch” by virtue of the great folks at NetGalley。 。。。more

Another fantastic Joe Pickett novel。 I’m captivated from the first moment and honestly can’t wait to see what shenanigans Joe gets in to and how everything goes wrong for him and he makes out in the end。 This one was full of twists and turns and I loved every second!

Storm WatchWhen I was first recommend the Joe Pickett series I was skeptical a series about a game warden would hold my interest。 Now a year later having ravagingly consumed the entire series in just a few months I was very excited to have been approved for a review copy of ‘Storm Watch” the 23rd novel in the series。 The way C。 J。 Box world builds astounds me, the world he’s built out in Saddlestring, WY feels lived in and makes me want to visit the state even more than I already did, the only p Storm WatchWhen I was first recommend the Joe Pickett series I was skeptical a series about a game warden would hold my interest。 Now a year later having ravagingly consumed the entire series in just a few months I was very excited to have been approved for a review copy of ‘Storm Watch” the 23rd novel in the series。 The way C。 J。 Box world builds astounds me, the world he’s built out in Saddlestring, WY feels lived in and makes me want to visit the state even more than I already did, the only problem is if i were to actually visit the characters I know and love wouldn’t exist to welcome me。 In Storm Watch Joe Pickett is tracking down a wounded elk with a snow storm poised to pound the state with a winter storm when he comes across a mysterious metal building on the double D ranch emitting a strange high pitched noise and as Joe gets closer he finds a dead body。 Who does it belong to? I highly recommend this book to anyone, especially those like me who tend to live in places that resemble Saddlestring in one way or another。 。。。more

In CJ Box's Storm Watch (GP Putnam's Sons 2023), twenty-third book in the Joe Pickett series, Joe as usual gets caught up in a murder not officially part of his game warden duties and one he is warned to back away from。 As is a recurring theme, Joe has to pull the threads to the why and how, regardless of the warnings he gets from bosses and colleagues。 In this case, a man has been shoved into the blades of a powerful fan that shears off half his head。 When Joe tries to pass what must be a murde In CJ Box's Storm Watch (GP Putnam's Sons 2023), twenty-third book in the Joe Pickett series, Joe as usual gets caught up in a murder not officially part of his game warden duties and one he is warned to back away from。 As is a recurring theme, Joe has to pull the threads to the why and how, regardless of the warnings he gets from bosses and colleagues。 In this case, a man has been shoved into the blades of a powerful fan that shears off half his head。 When Joe tries to pass what must be a murder on to local authorities, they find no man, no blood, and no evidence of a murder at the scene。 They want to let it go, but Joe has pictures and can't walk away。 The more he digs into it, the more confusing it is。 With no help from law enforcement colleagues or Wyoming political leadership, he enlists the support of his wife to research background and falconer friend Nate Romanowski to go undercover in a subversive group called the Sovereign nation。On top of trying to track down this murderer, Joe is trying to stop a group that is collecting antlers from elk before they’re ready to shed them (how they do this is appalling)。Throughout the story are forays into Wyoming's glorious mountain vistas of brilliant snow, a rural world barely touched by civilization and communities。If you have enjoyed Joe Pickett novels in the past, you’ll like this one too。 I've read all of them and plan to ready everything Box writes, so why a 4/5 rating? Not quite sure。 One metric I use is can I put it down or does it call to me while I try to complete my daily tasks。 This one, I did manage to set aside。 。。。more

CJ Box continues to write some of the best thriller/mystery fiction today。 Like most of Box’s books this one does center around an issue popular today regarding Bitcoin and the Chinese government and government corruption here in the states。 I absolutely love this series。 It’s very real and continues the story of Joe, his family and friend Nate。 My only regret is I’ll have to wait ANOTHER year before I get my next Joe Pickett fix。 Buy this book when it comes out you won’t regret it!I was provide CJ Box continues to write some of the best thriller/mystery fiction today。 Like most of Box’s books this one does center around an issue popular today regarding Bitcoin and the Chinese government and government corruption here in the states。 I absolutely love this series。 It’s very real and continues the story of Joe, his family and friend Nate。 My only regret is I’ll have to wait ANOTHER year before I get my next Joe Pickett fix。 Buy this book when it comes out you won’t regret it!I was provided an early copy of this book through NetGalley 。。。more

I do love CJ Box novels! Every one of them is great, some greater than others, but all good。 I enjoyed this book, but found the subject not as interesting as most of his others。 Still it was a good book and I didn't put it down much。 I love the characters, it is a very character driven series, and I love the growth with all of them。 Sheridan particularly。 I love both of his series, but Joe Pickett best。 Highly recommend the whole series。。。。。in order!!! Poor Joe Pickett is always winding up in trouble somehow because he wants to do the right thing。 This was another fun read from Box that I zoomed through。 It was a pleasant surprise to see some old characters show up and have a role though I didn’t remember some of the previous characters。 Box continued his easy going writing style in this one but spices it up a bit by having several seemingly unrelated plots that weave together nicely at the end。 Well done Mr。 Box。 I’ve been a longtime fan of t Poor Joe Pickett is always winding up in trouble somehow because he wants to do the right thing。 This was another fun read from Box that I zoomed through。 It was a pleasant surprise to see some old characters show up and have a role though I didn’t remember some of the previous characters。 Box continued his easy going writing style in this one but spices it up a bit by having several seemingly unrelated plots that weave together nicely at the end。 Well done Mr。 Box。 I’ve been a longtime fan of this series and after reading this book, am glad to see the series has not turned stale and look forward to the next book。 Recommended for fans of Box, fans of westerns, or anyone who wants a book that’s easy to read yet still holds your attention。 Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Group for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review。 。。。more
